Accessibility is part of who we are. We are committed to providing an accessible experience for everyone who visits our website. Accessibility is an ongoing journey, and we continue to learn and improve the site. During development and after launch, we are working with Easy Surf, a disability-led digital accessibility consultancy. Their team provides support by testing the site against accessibility standards and with people with disabilities. Here are some of the accessibility features on this site and our plan for continuous improvement.
Designed with access in mind
The website aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Here are some of the features we have included.
- Embedded alt text and a visible written description for all photos
- Light and dark modes
- Text labels on buttons wherever possible
- Avoid pop-ups wherever possible
- Clear, consistent headings
- Skip to main content link
- Visible focus indicators
- Photos easier to find with tagging and search
Testing and ongoing improvements
So far, we have checked the site with automated tools, keyboard navigation, voice control, and a preliminary screen reader test. We are now doing in-depth testing with people who use screen readers every day. Where that testing finds barriers, we will prioritise them and do our best to address them.
